K3V series hydraulic pump is an open circuit, swashplate axial piston pump manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Japan. It is commonly used as the main pump in construction machinery, especially hydraulic excavators. The pump typically consists of a main pump, a pilot pump, and a regulator, renowned for its reliability and power control capabilities.
Each K3V pump is a highly integrated hydraulic power unit, typically comprising a main pump, a pilot gear pump, and a precision hydraulic regulator. The model number directly indicates key parameters, such as K3V112 representing a theoretical displacement of 112 cubic centimeters per revolution. The series covers a range of displacements from K3V63 to K3V280, perfectly meeting the needs of equipment ranging from small to large-tonnage applications.
Model example | Theoretical displacement (cm³/rev) | Common applications and notes |
K3V63 | 63 | Used in small to medium-sized excavators. |
K3V112 | 112 | Commonly found in medium-sized excavators of brands like Hyundai and Volvo. |
K3V140 | 140 | Extensive applications; multiple control variants exist (e.g., K3V140DT). |
K3V180 | 180 | Used in medium to large equipment; supplier information indicates wide compatibility across brands. |
The revolutionary Total Power Control (TVC) system in dual-pump configurations fully leverages the K3V pump's core advantages. Its real-time monitoring ensures the combined output power of both pumps remains consistently near the engine's optimal performance. During compound operations, the system intelligently allocates total power to the pump requiring higher demand, achieving 100% engine utilization and preventing overload-induced shutdowns – demonstrating exceptional performance under heavy-load conditions.
Efficient Negative Flow Control (NFC) is a key technology for energy conservation. When all control levers are in neutral, the control pressure generated by the main control valve feeds back to the pump regulator, automatically reducing the pump's displacement to the minimum. This significantly reduces energy loss and system heat generated by high-pressure overflow. Once operation begins, the pump's displacement responds instantly to operational demands. This not only lowers fuel consumption but also dramatically extends the service life of hydraulic components.
The K3V pump features optional power conversion and electro-hydraulic proportional control to meet complex operational conditions and intelligent requirements. It integrates a power conversion valve that enables multi-level power mode switching via external electrical signals. The next-generation model further supports advanced electro-hydraulic proportional control, directly receiving controller commands to achieve precise, stepless regulation of flow and pressure, thereby establishing the foundation for intelligent host systems.
The K3V hydraulic pump also has some drawbacks. Due to the design principles of its plunger and distributor plate, it generates noticeable fluid noise (liquid explosion sound) during high-pressure and variable flow processes, which is an inherent characteristic of this structure. The K3V hydraulic pump has high requirements for hydraulic oil. The clearance between precision friction pairs such as the plunger and distributor plate is extremely small. If the oil cleanliness is not up to standard, it can quickly lead to wear, scoring, increased internal leakage, reduced pump efficiency, and even pump body "cracking".
